Teaching New Christians Not to Pray to Their Ancestors Click here to leave a comment on our blog Hello,
It sounds strange I know, but ancestor veneration is deeply ingrained in the culture of African people. It is taught to them from birth that they must honor their living and their dead ancestors. But it is a curse on Africa. It produces fear and fatalism, and makes the susceptible to witch doctors and demons. Last year one of our leaders, Raymond Makamu, led a team to Mozambique and while there planted four churches. Below is a brief report on his experience as he teaching and strengthening the believers: We are in Mozambique now, we just started our follow ups with the people of the church. We have done two teachings so far, Identity in Christ and ancestral worship. I felt that I identity was a particularly important issue to discuss... We are also teaching about ancestral worship for obvious reasons. It is alarming to note that not only people from outside of the Church practice various forms of ancestral worship, but also a majority of the members in the churches, including some of the pastors. After finishing my teaching it was clear that this was a challenging message but it did not go unreceived. We still have our last lesson on the COST OF FOLLOWING JESUS, it will be fun. I do teach with daily practical life, so even those people uneducated they real fall in love with what the reality is all about. Religiosity has dryed and cracked the soil of many members of the congregation's hearts, but the fresh rain of Jesus that gives life to all things is starting to penetrate the surface. We as a team feel that this could be a time of real breakthrough for the Church here in Mozambique. Please press in with us in your prayer times for the church here in Mozambique, but also for the team members.
